Aviation Hangers

Aviation facilities represent a distinctive building typology in which expansive hangar and maintenance functions must be thoughtfully integrated with arrival, reception, administrative, and passenger waiting areas. The architectural response requires a careful balance between highly technical operational demands and the creation of a clear, welcoming experience for passengers, pilots, staff, and visitors. Efficient circulation, controlled access, aircraft movement, service requirements, and long-term durability must be coordinated within a cohesive planning strategy that supports the daily performance of the facility.
Beyond its functional role, the facility serves as a physical expression of the owner or aviation company it represents. The scale, massing, material palette, and detailing can reinforce a distinct identity while establishing an appropriate sense of permanence and professionalism. Public-facing areas may incorporate refined finishes, controlled natural light, and intentional views toward the aircraft, creating a direct visual connection between the passenger experience and the activity of the hangar. These spaces provide an opportunity to communicate brand character without compromising the efficiency or security of the operational environment.
As a result, aviation architecture often combines highly personalized design elements with durable, efficient, and utilitarian construction. Robust materials and carefully resolved building systems support demanding maintenance activities and long-term use, while considered proportions, refined transitions, and consistent detailing unify the technical and public components of the facility. The resulting environment is both operationally precise and architecturally distinctive, reflecting the specialized nature of aviation while providing a comfortable and memorable experience for those who use it.

The SandBar Marina

The SandBar was conceived as a family-oriented waterfront destination that establishes a fluid connection between the False River, marina, and the venue’s interior gathering spaces. During the day, families boating or skiing on the river can dock at the marina, enter the bar for food and refreshments, and return easily to the water. Volleyball courts extend the recreational program beyond the riverfront and support league play during the off-season. Large operable doors dissolve the boundary between the bar and the exterior activity areas, encouraging effortless circulation and creating an adaptable indoor-outdoor environment. The relaxed architectural character reinforces the SandBar’s laid-back atmosphere while allowing the venue to transition seamlessly from casual daytime use to concerts and larger community gatherings.

RSAW Office Renvoation

Stout Architecture: RSAW Office Renovation: This project replaces the existing single-story office with a new, efficient two-story office and meeting space within the existing metal building footprint. The renovation addresses current staffing and operational needs while converting the former second-floor storage area into functional office space. New exterior punched openings will provide increased natural light, and a second-floor porch will create additional outdoor seating space. The design also addresses the required separation between the F-2 shop occupancy and the business occupancy, incorporating fire barriers within the existing metal building structure. After evaluating multiple construction phasing options, the selected approach minimizes impacts to operations, schedule, and cost by providing temporary access to the shop through the main office and relocating staff to another building on campus during construction.
Construction cost is $1,500,000.00
Building size, 2 stories approximately 5,400 sq ft
